Military/ASVAB

Military Recruitment Process

Any student interested in pursuing the military is encouraged to speak with a recruiter as soon as possible.  There are many branches of the military with varying enlistment procedures and requirements.

Recruiters from the various branches are available to BLHS students on a weekly basis during lunch in the cafeteria.

Contact information for these recruiters is also available in the counseling office if needed.

Upcoming BLHS ASVAB Testing

The ASVAB test will be administered at BLHS in March 2020.  The test is open to all 10th through 12th grades students at BLHS.  Sign-up for the ASVAB in the main office or the JROTC area as soon as possible.  JROTC must have an accurate head count in advance for the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) Team.

If you have any questions, please contact 1SG Covington (USA Ret) or COL Robinson (USA Ret) in the JROTC area.

ASVAB

All potential recruits are required to sit for the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery).  The ASVAB is a timed multi-aptitude test, which is given at over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide and is developed and maintained by the Department of Defense.

Your scores in four critical areas -- Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge -- count towards your Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score. The AFQT score determines whether you're qualified to enlist in the U.S. military.

Your scores in the other areas of the ASVAB will determine how qualified you are for certain military occupational specialties and Enlistment Bonuses. A high score will improve your chances of getting the specialty/job and signing bonus you want.

ASVAB Practice Resources

It is encouraged that you prepare for the ASVAB ahead of time, as your score determines many important components of your enlistment process.  Practice resources are available at the following links:
