Freshman Information

Dear Freshman,

Welcome to high school!  We are so excited to have you here and know that this can be an overwhelming time.  Studies show that the transition from middle school to high school is actually more difficult than the transition from high school to college, so we understand if you are concerned!  However please know that your counselors are here to help and encourage you!

Whether you took some high school credit courses in middle school, or you are coming to BLHS with a clean slate, it is crucial that you take ALL classes and grades seriously.  Any grades you earn from this point forward will be recorded on your transcript and seen by future colleges, military recruiters, employers, etc. so everything counts!  At this time you may not know what you hope to do after graduation, but it is wise to get as best of grades as you can so that you keep all opportunities open to you for the future!

We encourage you to become active in extra-curricular activities to get to know other students, develop leadership and team-working skills, etc.

Your IGP meeting will be held with your counselor in the spring semester.  During this time we will select the courses that you need and want to take in 10th grade.  Make sure to review the BLHS Course Registration Catalog (linked left) prior to your meeting so we can request courses you have an interest in.  Your counselor will ask you questions regarding your interests and any college or career goals you may have, so that suggestions can be made for related courses offered at BLHS.

We look forward to working with you this year!

Sincerely,
The BLHS Counseling Department
