Six students from B-L High School had the privilege and honor of attending Palmetto Girls State and Palmetto Boys State the week of June 9th through 15th.
Congratulations to Susan Taylor, Morgan Price, and Lauren Caughman on being selected for Palmetto Girls State, which was held on the campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. Palmetto Girls State is a program developed and sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of South Carolina. While at the weeklong event, students had the opportunity to learn more about government, Americanism, and citizenship while participating in mock political activities on the city, county and state levels of government. The students from B-L High School were part of a group of around 640 delegates who participated in the 73rd annual Palmetto Girls State session.
Congratulations to Bryce Burkett, Caden Bryant and Vernard Ramage on being selected for Palmetto Boys State, which was held on the campus of Anderson University in Anderson, SC. While at Palmetto Boys State, delegates learned about state, city, and local government, as well as the political process in the state of South Carolina. They also discovered how partisan politics operate. Each delegate had an opportunity to help compose a party platform, prepare speeches, and run for an elected office. The offices ranged from mayor of a city all the way to state governor.
It is a great honor to be chosen as a delegate to Palmetto Girls State and Palmetto Boys State. Students must have demonstrated leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty and service to their school and the community to be considered for selection. The B-L High School students chosen for Palmetto Girls State and Palmetto Boys State were sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Post 61.
