Overview

The members of the Social Studies Department are Barry Thomas (Department Head), William Ash, Maggee Ellis, Patrick Leonhardt, and Bob Roudybush.

The Social Studies Department strives to enlighten and involve the students in areas of the past, present, and future. By doing this the student will become aware of the heritage and the functions of government. Through this course of study, the student will see the need for good citizenship and how to function better in society. Three units of social studies are required. Two must be U.S. History and Government/Economics and one elective. The department strongly suggests at least one additional elective. Other Social Studies courses may be taken as interest dictates. Elective social studies course offerings include AP Human Geography, AP European History, World History, and extensive dual enrollment offerings including HIS 101, HIS 102, HIS 201, HIS 202, SOC 101, REL 102, and PSY 201.
