New Manufacturing Center to Open Doors for B-L High School Students graphic

Lexington County School District Three Superintendent Dr. Ashley Atkinson took part in a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, October 28th, celebrating the launch of Piedmont Technical College’s new Saluda County Center for Manufacturing Excellence.

The facility, which will serve as a regional hub for advanced manufacturing education and workforce development, represents a major investment in the future of local students and industries. Backed by state funding and community partnerships, the $14.3 million, 22,635-square-foot center will be located on PTC’s Saluda County Campus.

Once complete, the Center for Manufacturing Excellence will expand access to high-demand technical programs such as mechatronics and machine tool technology, helping to prepare students for successful careers in modern manufacturing fields.

The center will also create new opportunities for dual enrollment, allowing students from Batesburg-Leesville High School, Saluda High School, and Ridge Spring-Monetta High School to earn college credits without having to travel far from home.

Beyond serving students, the facility is expected to boost economic growth by attracting new industries and strengthening the region’s skilled workforce. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, with the grand opening anticipated in early 2027.
